Emi Gusukuma graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from UCLA in 1993, and received her J.D. from UC Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco in 1997. She is a member of the California State Bar, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. Her practice includes commercial and employment litigation as well providing advice and counsel to employers on issues that arise in the workplace. She has been an adjunct professor at Hastings College of the Law, a guest lecturer at Chabot College, and a regular guest lecturer at the Hastings Civil Justice and Mediation Clinics. She is an appointed member of the Ethics Commission for the City and County of San Francisco, having previously served as its Chair from 2005-2007 and Vice Chair from 2007-2009. Prior to her appointment to the Ethics Commission, she served on the Immigrant Rights Commission for the City and County of San Francisco. She is the Secretary and Board member of the Asian American Bar Association, and is a long-time volunteer supervising attorney with the Workers’ Rights Clinic-Employment Law Center.
